Bob Blogosphere History?

Bob (Fosse) basks in the spotlight.

So, let’s look at all the things I could be writing about:

– There’s a very important writer’s strike going on (here’s a comics-centric view)

– My favorite geek-TV creator has a new series he’ll be doing, once that very important strike is settled.

– In a poignant postscript to the death of Deborah Kerr two weeks ago, her husband Peter Viertel, himself the co-writer of more than one good movie, has passed away.

– There’s another study which seems to link TV watching to juvenile violence but, in fact, really doesn’t and, for a change, comes with an analysis that actually makes sense (”mommas, don’t let your babies watch TV cowboys, until they’re five”).

– And, if I actually had time to investigate the strange and sad world of politics, I’d also be able to discuss some nonsense about the Democrats in congress caving again.

– Meanwhile, here in cinephile-land, the Film and Faith Blogathon is coming on Wednesday. (Will I be participating? Only the Lord God Chronos knows for sure.)

I could easily generate thousands of words on any of this. However, circumstances are forcing me to go meta on you because this mere asteroid in the blogospheric firmament has apparently made a small but intriguing bit of history, or something, with the upcoming Fossethon, still scheduled to kick off this very upcoming Saturday, November 10, 2007.

Here’s what happened as I understand it: A couple of weeks back Artswom, the official blog of the UK cable channel Sky Arts, was kind enough to mention the Fossethon in connection with the showing of the two-hour Fosse television special back in September. Overnight my UK readership skyrocketed from zilch to several.

Now, things seem to have taken a step further and as recounted by the mysterious Artswom his or herself, the “Fosse” special will be repeated on November 10th. To, yes, coincide with the date of the Fossethon, right here at FtY. I’m still a relative newcomer, but I think this may be a first case of the cinephile blog tail wagging the dog of television programming. Someone please tell me if I’m wrong. In any case, I’m definitely tickled. And a bit alarmed, though in a good way. Thanks, Artswom.

And, since the writer’s strike means there won’t be any new “moments of zen” from The Daily Show for awhile, here is my humble alternative. Your moment of Fosse, remixed.

Funny you mention the Daily Show, as just last night I was having a bit of a Stewart-fest catching up on all the epsiodes I’ve missed over the past few months. His comment on the writers strike was especially poignant as I was watching the show online while being bombarded with particularly excrutiating Wendy’s adverts!

Yep, those advertising things are why God made DVRs. And, of course, double public thanks to you for everything, Seb of Artswom.

As for Stewart’s comments (prior to the strike), readers can see them here.

Bob, this is quite cool! I only wish I could participate– school and out-of-town company are preventing me, I’m afraid. But I look forward to what you’re gonna have cooking here, and from the sound of it, it’s gonna be quite a lot!

Hey, Dennis. Thanks for stopping by and don’t feel bad, I know how busy you are and wasn’t expecting a SLIFR post, though that would have been very cool.

As for turnout, I’m still not convinced this is going to be all that big — if only because there are only five Fosse directed films and a handful of films he choreographed and/or appeared in. Still, I’M excited.
