RIP Lux Interior (Updated 2x)

Some sad news has hit L.A.’s music scene, the lead singer of the world’s greatest horror-hillbilly-punk-rock band, the Cramps, has died of an ongoing heart condition. Here they are in ‘81….

The Times has a brief obituary.

Ironically enough — painfully so, I’m sure — Mr. Interior’s last film acting appearance will be showing tomorrow night for what I think is it’s first public showing in the United States, and any SoCal Cramps fans who can make their way to Hollywood’s Egyptian Theater might dig it, particularly if they are also fans of Mexican wrestling. It’s a funny, good-natured, and imaginative animated film made by some nice and very talented folks I know, the creators of the TV series Mucha Lucha, called Los Campeones de la Lucha Libre. Tomorrow night also happens to be the 25th anniversary of the death of lucha libre legend Santo, and one of his films will be the second feature.

The details are here. The trailer is below. Check it out.

Update: More on Lux Interior, including some recording session photos, from the makers of Los Campeones.

Another Update: MTV has a longer obituary (with a slightly different age for Lux Interior at the time of his passing). Also, the wondrous Katrina Longworth of Spoutblog fame has picked up on the story and included some video of one of the Cramps’ most legendary performances. Worth a look, for sure.
